Update on A level and Vocational Results 2020
Update from the Principal on A level and Vocational Results 2020
Dear students,
As you will likely be aware, Ofqual yesterday made the decision to award students the centre assessed grades (CAG) for Summer 2020 which were submitted to the awarding bodies by schools and colleges. A level students will be sent a CAG slip which provides their centre assessed grades submitted to the awarding bodies by Blackpool Sixth and which were your teacher’s best assessment of what you would have achieved if you had taken exams.
The college is waiting to receive official guidance from Ofqual and the individual awarding bodies as to the next steps with regards to issuing all students with an official Summer 2020 results slip in light of the many recent changes which have taken place. We understand that Ofqual have released a statement indicating that some adjustments may still be required to safeguard those students where the moderated grade is higher than the centre assessed grade and it is likely that the higher grade will stand. The college is waiting for further guidance and clarity before it can act.
If you have submitted an internal appeal form to the college please be assured that these are being recorded and considered. In the main, the appeals received to date have been in relation to the statement made by the Secretary of State for Education Gavin Williamson MP, which gave students the opportunity to appeal on the grounds of a mock grade being higher than the awarded grade. Again the college is waiting for further information and clarity about the appeals process in light of the most recent changes. We will contact you when we have received further guidance and clarity of any potential changes to the appeals process.
The decision to switch to centre assessed grades applies to AS, A Level and GCSE grades only and therefore the grades which were received for vocational qualifications such as Pearson BTECs, OCR Cambridge Technicals (CTECs) and the LIBF certificate and diploma in financial studies remain as received from the awarding bodies and shared with students on results day.
The college recognises the anxiety and uncertainty which students have experienced as a result of the Summer 2020 results situation and would like to assure you that the college is trying to interpret and act on the changes as quickly as it can when they are announced. If you need any help or guidance because of the changes please do not hesitate to contact your Pastoral Mentor.
