COURSE oVERVIEW

The digital sector in the UK is thriving and currently contributes over £151 billion to the UK economy. Our local area of Lancashire has also seen major investment in becoming a digital hub with the development of the North Atlantic Loop which is set to open up more lucrative job opportunities over the upcoming years. The T Level in Digital Support Services will give you the opportunity to work with businesses in the digital sector and understand and learn the real skills that are required to actively work within this growing sector in the future.

EXAMINATION BOARD: NCFE

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

This course requires at least 5 GCSE passes, including at least two grade 5 passes. You must also have passed both GCSE English Language and GCSE Maths at at least grade 4.

Why study T Level Digital at Blackpool Sixth?

DID YOU KNOW: The job you end up doing probably doesn’t exist yet! What we do know is that most will be powered by the digital generation

With this in mind, the development of digital skills is vital. By studying this course, you will be taught in our purpose-built Digital Lab/Suite using the latest technology to understand how the digital world is evolving and how this impacts on businesses in the 21st century. You will work with a host of our amazing business partners who will support you in developing the skills to use within a real-life business setting.

The course will allow you to think innovatively and bring in your own knowledge and skills to further develop your understanding of the digital world. You will have the opportunity to work on real-life digital problems faced by businesses and work on solutions to fix them.

How will I be taught?

During your time studying on the Digital T Level course, you will spend 80% of your time in the classroom and 20% of your time in the workplace. In Year 1, you will spend the majority of your time in the classroom where you will take advantage of our purpose built digital suite to learn the key content that employers want you to know and understand to work within the digital sector. You will take part in employer talks, online workshops and project based tasks to further your understanding.

In year 2, you will take part in 415 hours of work experience. We have developed strong relationships with local companies such as Victrex, Blackpool and Wyre Council, NHS and many more that will help you develop your digital skills further and work your way towards a career within this growing sector.

Teacher expertise

You will be taught by a range of business and digital experts who have developed their skills through engaging with industry professionals. These skills include being able to code in multiple languages including Python, C# and Visual Basic and working within small and medium sized businesses including setting up and running start ups.

What skills will I develop?

  • Digital Skills – you will use and understand the importance of emerging technology and how businesses are impacted by this. You will develop the digital skills to use a host of different hardware and software/applications that are required to design, implement, fix and evolve the digital environment within a business.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving: within the course, you will be given the opportunity to use your own skills to solve digital problems faced by businesses. These can include how to install hardware and software to fix tech based issues with the digital environment.
  • Teamwork: you will be expected to work collaboratively to understand the key content and work in groups on small projects with lessons to improve your understanding of the content.
  • Application skills: you will be able to use the content and skills developed on the course and put them into practice on your work experience placement.
  • Remote learning/Independent study: whilst on your work placement, you will develop your ability to work remotely from other locations to access course content and complete assessments. You will also be attending remote meetings to assess your performance whilst on placement.
  • Written communication: there are a variety of ways that assignments are handed in, one of the main ones being typed assignments.
  • Research skills: you will develop research skills through group tasks that will involve using the internet. You will use this evidence to apply to your projects and assessments.

How will I be assessed?

Year 1 Assessments:

Two written exams testing the core content of the course.
A employer set project completed in college.

Year 2 Assessment

Completion of 315 hours (45 days) of work experience within the digital sector.
Completion of an occupational specialism project (Digital Support).

Where does it lead?

Completion of the T-Level can lead to many different opportunities, including:

  • Apprenticeship (including degree apprenticeships) within the digital sector
  • Full time work within the digital support teams in businesses
  • Higher education through studying a digital related degree

What it entails

Digital Service Technician

Provide support on fixing, testing and undergoing upgrades of technology to ensure they remain fully functional

Infrastructure Technician

Help maintain and improve the digital environment within a business, including installing emerging technology and helping train up staff

Network Engineer

Help ensure that all communication networks are fully operational and enhanced to help benefit businesses

IT Security Coordinator

Develop and maintain IT systems to ensure all data is fully secure and protected from malicious attacks

Technical Architect

Design and build of technical architecture. Undertake analysis of technical issues and using this analysis into creating technical designs that describe a solution whilst looking for opportunities to collaborate and reuse components, communicating with all stakeholders
